Holiness

I discovered that while on the journey, God will not provide us with holiness... (Lev.11:44) that's ours to provide.

But what he does provide is the manner in which we can become holy if we so choose. As we know Jesus better, His divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life. He has called us to receive His own glory and goodness! (2 Peter 1:3)

If it is our will to know God better and to be transformed then we begin to change and the benefits of Christ?€?s death on the cross make us holy. But it is ours to do.

My 5 Favourite Film Quotes

Hello GTPC.  In these quotes I have found truths that have helped me in my Christian service. Truths that are biblically based, yet set in contemporary film (well they range from 1977-2004). Let them encourage you.

#1 The Matrix (1999). When Laurence Fishburne's character Morpheus offers Keanu Reeves' character Thomas Anderson (Neo), the two pills, he has a choice that determines his future. He would not be able to change his commitment once he make a choice.  "This is your last chance. After this there is no going back.?   Too often we get sidetracked and our commitments suffer.  Something else or better comes along.  A while back someone was telling me they were faced with a great opportunity but after reading Prov.4:25-27, they realized they had to stay the course.  Like Neo, we need to commit to the plan and stay with it.

#2 In The Princess' Diaries (2001), Princess Amelia (Mia) played by Anne Hathaway, receives a letter and gift her late father Phillipe left for her, that she was to open on her 16th birthday. In the Diary he wrote advice to his daughter that I just love. "Courage is not the absence of fear... but rather the judgement... that something else is more important than fear.  The brave may not live forever... but the cautious do not live at all.?    What we do?serving Christ in a dying world?takes courage.  But we realize that doing what we do is for a greater good than the fear.  The lives we touch through our service is worth the effort to break from our comfort zone. Don't fear, be courageous.

#3 Susan Sarandon's character Beverly, in Shall We Dance (2004), sits in a bar talking with the private investigator she has hired to track her husband. She responds to a question from.  The investigator Richard Jenkin's character Devine, ponders a question about why people stay together in long marriages.  Beverly responds, "We need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet... I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things... all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'.?

#4 "Luke, I am your father.?  This is one of the most quoted lines from the most famous of trilogies Star Wars.  In Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), Darth Vader reveals himself to be Luke's father, one of the greatest plot twists in cinematic history.  Ironically Vader never said that. His actual quote is, "No. I am your father.?    The trivia aside I love this quote because I constantly need to hear it from my heavenly Father.  And the fact that he is my Father gives me the hope that my serving is not in vain.  What I do matters because of who's I am.

#5 The part of Lionel Bloch is played by the British actor Bob Hoskins in the romantic comedy Maid in Manhattan (2002).  He offers advice to Jennifer Lopez's character, Marisa, after she was found to be fraudulently portraying a society character Caroline Lane.  To build her confidence he said, "To serve people takes dignity and intelligence. But remember, they are only people with money. And although we serve them, we are not their servants. What we do, Miss Ventura, does not define who we are. What defines us is how well we rise after falling.?   So many things in the film make this great writing and a great quote.

I've said a lot.  I'll leave you to watch the movie with some friends or your spouse and pull out of it great 'service' themes. Share a few with me.  Maybe they'll make my blog next week.
